Garadry® Threshold Seals Fitting Instructions

Garadry®  Designed for Optimal Performance and Durability

Garadry threshold seals are meticulously engineered to provide superior protection against water ingress, pests, and drafts for various types of manual and automatic garage doors. These fitting instructions offer comprehensive guidance to ensure a seamless installation process and optimal performance of your threshold seal.

Before You Begin:

  • Read our buyers guide and download out full installation guide
  • Threshold seals should be installed by a responsible adult, exercising caution when stepping over them.
  • Ensure the installation area is free from loose concrete or gravel surfaces. Unsealed concrete floors with a dusty or powdery surface must be sealed with a concrete sealer before installation.
  • For smooth epoxy floors or tiles, use low-grit sandpaper to slightly dull the surface for better adhesive bonding. Remove any dust or debris before proceeding.
  • Lay the threshold seal flat on a clean surface to allow it to return to its original shape, overcoming any coiling from transport.
  • Store adhesive/sealant at room temperature before application for optimal flow. The recommended ambient temperature for applying adhesive is 5°C to 35°C (40°F to 95°F).

Step-by-Step Installation Guide:

Step 1: Preparing the Installation Area

  • Thoroughly clean the installation area to remove dust, debris, oil, and grease. Use a wire brush to eliminate loose paint from painted floors.
  • Ensure no dust or debris remains after cleaning.

Step 2: Measure and Cut the Threshold Seal

  • Measure the width of the opening between frame or side tracks, adding an extra 40mm (1 ½”) at each end.
  • Cut the threshold seal to the required length.

Step 3: Positioning the Threshold Seal

  • Close the garage door and position the threshold seal against the back of the door from inside the garage.
  • Mark where the threshold seal needs to be notched back around the door frame/tracks for a snug fit.
  • Use a hacksaw or sharp utility knife to cut the threshold seal as marked.

Step 4: Placing and Adjusting the Seal

  • With the garage door closed, place the threshold seal in position and push it up against the back of the door to create a tight seal.
  • Ensure the garage door closes onto the front face of the seal.
  • Adjust the position if necessary to achieve a proper seal.
  • If visible daylight is present, cut back the threshold seal further around the door tracks for a tight seal.

Step 5: Marking and Notching

  • With the threshold seal in position, mark along the back edge of the seal inside the garage with a pencil or marker.

Step 6: Further Marking and Adjustment

  • Open the garage door and mark along the front edge of the seal.
  • Remove the threshold seal and mark two parallel lines approximately 10mm (⅓”) inside the existing lines.
  • Then mark an unbroken zigzag line inside the inner parallel lines.

Step 7: Cleaning and Preparation

  • Use a clean, dry cloth to remove any dust, debris, oil, and grease from the bottom of the threshold seal.
  • Sweep the floor thoroughly to ensure it is clean and free from any contaminants.

Step 8: Cutting the Adhesive Tube

  • Cut the end off the adhesive tube to prepare for application.

Step 9: Preparing the Sealant Gun

  • Use a hacksaw or sharp utility knife to cut the adhesive nozzle approximately 15mm (½”) from the tip.
  • Fit the tube into the sealant gun.

Step 10: Applying Adhesive

  • Apply the adhesive to the floor following the inner parallel lines marked out in Step 6.
  • Ensure an unbroken zigzag line of adhesive is applied between the parallel lines.

Step 11: Attaching the Seal

  • Starting at one end, place the threshold seal in position on top of the adhesive and press down firmly.
  • Continue along the length of the threshold seal, pressing down firmly and ensuring good contact in all areas.
  • Remove any excess adhesive from the sides with a clean cloth.

Step 12: Ensuring a Watertight Fit

  • Apply adhesive around the door frame and ends of the threshold seal to ensure a watertight fit.
  • Check for any remaining gaps and apply more adhesive as required.

Step 13: Optional - Foam Side Blocks

  • For sectional or roller garage doors with open side tracks, insert foam side blocks to prevent water ingress.
  • Measure the distance between the wall and the garage door track.
  • Cut the side block to size and use plenty of adhesive to stick it in position on the floor and wall.
  • Apply unbroken lines of adhesive around the side block where it meets the wall, door, and track.
  • Check for any remaining gaps and apply more adhesive as necessary.

Final Checks and Care:

  • Allow 24 hours before driving over the threshold after installation.
  • Test the installation after 24 hours using a bucket of water or hosepipe to check for water ingress.
  • Follow recommended care guidelines to ensure longevity and performance of the threshold seal.

Product Care Guide:

  • Avoid excessive speed when driving over the threshold seal to prevent damage.
  • Do not expose the seal to caustic chemicals, petroleum, or detergents.
  • Do not overload the threshold seal with excessive weight.
  • Clean the seal with a damp cloth, avoiding abrasive cleaners or detergents.
  • Exercise caution when stepping over the threshold seal to avoid tripping.
  • Do not use a pressure washer, as it can damage the seal and adhesive.

By following these fitting instructions and care guidelines, you can ensure the optimal performance and durability of your Garadry threshold seal, providing long-lasting protection for your garage space.

These comprehensive fitting instructions and care guidelines ensure a successful installation and long-term performance of Garadry threshold seals.
